"When does a condition on development go too far?”DWT's Brent Droze, a land use attorney in our Seattle office, is rapidly becoming an authority on the ways case law could transform how impact fees are assessed, particularly in Washington state. Just weeks before the U.S. Supreme Court decided Sheetz v. County of El Dorado, Brent led a webinar for the King County Bar Association and provided a deep dive into the “takings” clause, the doctrine of unconstitutional conditions, and other concepts in the land use context. He later shared insights into post-Sheetz land use law and the decision’s potential implications for Washington developers.Read Brent’s insights here:https://lnkd.in/giZAMe4k

In celebration of Juneteenth, our offices across the country hosted luncheons catered by local Black-owned businesses, while we listened to a history of Juneteenth by Associate Professor Brandon Byrd in a firmwide educational session. At DWT, we are committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. Juneteenth allows us to pause and reflect as we think about our history and its impacts and honor the contributions of Black Americans to our law firm and broader society.
