Despite this, seven-seat cars are growing in popularity with Aussie buyers, providing families with a spacious and flexible daily driver to cater to their needs.
If you're looking for more space but you're on a strict budget, here are the 10 cheapest seven-seat cars currently available in Australia.
Coincidentally, Australia's cheapest seven-seat cars are all SUVs. But if you're looking for a people mover, the cheapest seven-seater people mover is the LDV Mifa at $53,990 drive-away.
It's also worth noting that the eight-seater Hyundai Staria starts at $49,000 before on-road costs, while the Kia Carnival costs $50,150 before on-road costs.

Mahindra XUV700
Australia's cheapest seven-seater is the Mahindra XUV700 AX7, priced from $36,990 drive-away. It features two ISOFIX points in the second row and three top-tether points. The third row doesn't have any ISOFIX or top-tether points.
Mahindra doesn't quote official boot capacity figures for its XUV700; however, you can read or watchDrive'sfull reviewhere, which outlines space in the second and third rows.
It's worth mentioning the top-spec XUV700 AX7L is $39,990 drive-away.
LDV D90
The LDV D90 is Australia's second-cheapest seven-seater from $34,990 drive-away for ABN holders until 30 September 2024 or $38,937 drive-away for private buyers.
It has the option of two-wheel-drive (2WD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) variants as well as either a petrol or diesel engine. According to LDV Australia, the D90 comes standard with two ISOFIX ports in the second row and three top-tether points. The third row doesn't have any child-seat anchor points.
LDV claims the D90 has 1350L of boot capacity with the third row of seats folded flat. With the third row upright, it has 343L of boot space.
Nissan X-Trail
The seven-seat variant of the Nissan X-Trail starts at $40,790 before on-road costs for the ST grade. However, Nissan currently has a drive-away offer for its X-Trail range until 30 September 2024. Customers can pick up a MY23 X-Trail ST seven-seater for $41,990 drive-away.
The X-Trail has two ISOFIX-equipped seats in the second row and three top-tether points. The third row doesn't have any anchor points.
Nissan doesn't quote figures for the boot capacity when the third row of seats is upright; however, when the third row of seats is down there is 465L.

Mitsubishi Outlander
The entry-level seven-seater Mitsubishi Outlander LS starts from $41,240 before on-road costs. It's worth noting that Mitsubishi offers both five- and seven-seat variants of the Outlander; however, customers will have to jump up from the base-model five-seater ES to the LS if they want a third row.

The Outlander seven-seater has two ISOFIX-equipped seats in the second row and three top-tether points. The third row doesn't have any anchor points.
The Mitsubishi Outlander LS "5+2" seater has 478L of boot space with the third row folded and 163L when the third row is upright.
Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max recently launched in Australia and is the brand's first seven-seater. It starts from $41,990 drive-away.
It has two ISOFIX-equipped seats on the second-row outboard seats and three top-tether points. The third row has no anchor points.
Chery claims the SUV has 479L of boot space with the second row of seats upright; however, this is reduced to 117L when the third row of seats is in use.
Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace
The seven-seat Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace starts from $43,990 before on-road costs. Until 30 September 2024, Volkswagen Australia is offering a $2000 factory bonus on selected MY23 Tiguan Allspace models.
In the second row, the Tiguan Allspace has ISOFIX tether points on the two outboard seats and three top-tether points. The third row doesn't have any anchor points.
The Tiguan Allspace has 230L of boot capacity when the third row of seats is upright, which extends to 700L when the third row is folded.
Honda CR-V
The Honda CR-V is available as either a five- or seven-seater. The entry-level VTi X7 starts from $47,300 drive-away. It's worth mentioning that Honda operates under a fixed-price model, meaning there is no haggling; the drive-away price is the same at every dealer.
There are two ISOFIX-equipped seats in the second row. Honda uses the roof to anchor one top-tether point, while the other two are on the back of the seat. There are no anchor points in the third row.
The CR-V has 840L of boot space with the second row upright and 150L when the third row is in use.
Isuzu MU-X
The Isuzu MU-X is only available in a seven-seat configuration. It normally starts from $47,400 before on-road costs. However, Isuzu is running a driveway off its MU-X 4x2 LS-M 1.9L for a $45,990 driveaway until 31 July 2024. It comes with a 1.9-litre or 3.0-litre diesel engine and the choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4WD.
The MU-X has two ISOFIX points in the second row and three top-tether points. The third row doesn't have any anchor points.
With the third row of seats upright, the MU-X has 311L of boot space, which extends to 1119L when the seats are folded.
Ssangyong Rexton
The Ssangyong Rexton is currently priced from $50,000 drive-away. For a limited time, private buyers can pick up a MY23 build for $49,000 drive-away or $48,000 if you have an ABN.
It has two ISOFIX ports on either side of the second-row outboard seats and three top-tether points. It doesn't have anchor points for the third row.
When the second row of seats is upright it has 641L of boot space. When the third row of seats is in use, this is reduced to 236L.
Kia Sorento
Aside from the Kia EV9, the Sorento is one of Kia's only seven-seaters. Pricing starts from $50,680 before on-road costs for the petrol, front-wheel-drive model. It may not be Australia's cheapest seven-seater, but it is still definitely worth considering.
The Sorento has five top-tether points across the second and third rows and four ISOFIX-equipped seats.
It has a boot capacity of 608L with the second row of seats upright and 179L with the third row in use.
